Post-Divorce Mediation

After parties divorce, changes in circumstances sometimes arise that cause one of the parties to request a change or modification of one or more of the terms of their divorce agreement/judgment. One of the children may have gone to live with the non-custodial parent who was paying child support for that child.  Or perhaps the child’s educational or extracurricular expenses have changed.  If a divorced couple is in dispute about these or other changes relative to child custody, visitation, child support, spousal support and/or other terms of their divorce agreement, mediation is an appropriate alternative to litigation.

Post-Divorce Mediation sessions are conducted in the same manner as Divorce Mediation sessions.  As a mediator, I meet with both parties and facilitate an informal yet structured discussion  during which each has the opportunity to speak without interruption and present his or her view of the current issues in dispute. Through mediation, I help parties clarify the issues in dispute and explore options for resolution of these issues which will then become a modification of their existing divorce agreement after filing with the Court.
